William Munro to step down

The man who created the International Soca Monarch competition will step down after he produces ‘the biggest and best ever show’ this Carnival.

Caribbean Prestige Foundation businessman William Munro will step down and pass the baton to his fellow directors. Munro told Sunday Express, “This year’s International Soca Monarch and Groovy Soca Monarch will be my last.

Reigning champs knock April Carnival

STRONG disapproval for the proposed change for the Carnival days has come from two of the season’s reigning champions. Brian MacFarlane, reigning Band of the Year designer, and Calypso Monarch Cro Cro have stated opposition to the proposed change.

Junia Regrello, parliamentary secretary for the Culture Ministry, said the change of dates was something worth looking at, noting the challenges faced during the short season this year.

Chutney action in Skinner Park

SOME OF this country’s top chutney artistes will be vying for more than $1million in prizes at tomorrow’s Chutney Soca Monarch and Groovy Monarch finals at Skinner Park, San Fernando.

The finalists in the Chutney Soca segment are Rikki Jai, Heeralal Rampartap, Adesh Samaroo, Neeshad Sultan, Rick Ramoutar. Asha Kamachee, Soca Elvis, Arti Butkoon, Neeshan Prabhu, Edward Ramdass, Rajin Dhanraj, Surendra Ramoutar and Shalleika Hazel. They will be trying to take away the title currently held by Rooplal Girdharie.

Bunji, Ziggy, for Glow 2008

OVER THE past seven years Island Style Entertainment has produced “Glow-Wear White”, one of the premiere parties on the calendar of the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival season. The event has not been limited these shores, however, and recently completed its touring circuit for 2007, showcasing TT’s culture and unique music, touching Grenada, Barbados, St Vincent, Jamaica, north to Miami, Washington DC, New York, further north to Toronto.
