Ten primary school pupils will vie for the title of this year’s Flavorite Supreme Ice Cream National Schools Soca Monarch. Fourteen secondary school students will also battle for the crown in the secondary schools’ category. Following is the list of finalists (in alphabetical order of surname) for the competition which takes place at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah, on February 25 at 10 am.

CHARMED VICTORY

In his third consecutive appearance at the Junior King of Carnival competition, 13-year-old Matthew Barnes scored his first victory at the final last Friday night at the Northern Greens, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain.
Barnes, a Form Two student of St Mary’s College, portrayed a multi-coloured green and brown costume titled, “Sting in the Sandstorm”, which was designed by his father Gerard Barnes.

The 21st National Youth Action Committee’s Stars of Tomorrow Calypso Competition took place on January 17, 2010, at the Strand Cinema, Dundonald Street, Port-of-Spain, where twelve young artistes, between the ages of nineteen and thirty, vied for the top title. Although the size of the audience was modest, mostly consisting of the peers of the contestants, the atmosphere proved to be an exciting one as the young Calypso and Soca artistes delivered their songs.
