On the 21st February 2006, we went to the Kave Mar Club which housed the Klassic Ruso Tent, to discover what it had to offer. The Klassic Ruso Tent provided an area of comfort and enjoyment for those looking for expression in the form of traditional styled Calypso. The environment was very relaxing and provided an air of freshness for those wanting a break from the usual hype of the Carnival atmosphere.
Calypso icons as well as newcomers on the scene graced the stage to expose their talents. Artistes such as the 'Mighty Duke', 'QP', Shirlane Hendrickson and Marva McKenzie displayed their unique Calypso styles and just how varied the Calypso artform is. The fusion of the 'longtime' Calypso music with its evolved style was evident in the music of artistes such as 'Jus Simple' and Marva McKenzie. The 'Almanac', 'King Crow', The 'Manchild', Stanley Adams and many of the older heads showed the audience how it was done old school style.
The host of the night, MC 'Hot Foot', was just as entertaining as the performers, changing his attire almost every time he re-entered the stage. He was quite dapper in all his various outfits and kept the audience guessing every time.
Also very entertaining was The Earl Caruth Waves Kaiso Band and The Klassic Ruso Diamonds who provided excellent musical support to all the artistes on stage. Usually the accompanying musicians are left out during moments of commendation but these musicians more than deserve their share of praise.
The night was wonderful, the music entertaining and the Klassic Ruso Tent, a huge success.
