The National Youth Action Committee recently held their prize-giving ceremony for their 2007 Stars of Tomorrow Calypso Competition at the Guardian Holding headquarters. Chief Servant of NYAC, Akenaton Daaga spoke of the success of the NYAC's focus on Calypso as shown by the number of Calypsonians associated with the tent, Generation Next, reaching the National Calypso Monarch Finals on Dimanche Gras night. Richard Lawrence, manager of Corporate Communications at Guardian Holding, affirmed his organisation's support for the work being done by NYAC and remarked that he had noticed an increase in the quality of Calypsonians coming out of the shows done by the NYAC.

Performances were first delivered by the Calypsonians who were awarded for their participation in the competition. Young Calypsonian Victoria Cooper delivered a commendable rendition of 'No Unity in Paradise', a social commentary that explores the social relations within Trinidad and Tobago. She was followed by the talented Kirt Ross who sung 'We are All Winners'. Shawn Thomas, the son of famous Calypsonian Yafei 'Rootsman' Osei (who was in the audience), sang 'Dey Cyar Touch We Carnival', a song that highlighted the beauty and vigor of local Carnival festivities. Andrew Prescott charmed the audience with his song 'Beauty'. The combination of his thought-provoking lyrics and his melodic voice found favour with the audience who gave him an encore.

Performing next was Cindy Alleyne who delivered 'Caribbean Melody' a rhythmic composition which highlighted the richness of Caribbean cultural traditions. For this song she won the prize of Calypso Road March. The audience were also treated to performances by awardees Shereen Caesar singing 'Forgive Me Africa', Steven Marcelle singing 'Who Feels It Knows It', Ancil Valley singing his catchy song 'Father' and Amrika Mutroo singing 'Lets Find a Way'.

The evening progressed to performances by the three top placed Calypsonians. Jervae Caesar, 2007 Calypso Monarch Finalist placed third with his song 'Carry Me' and this rendition was received enthusiastically by the audience. Second place, Monique Hector, sang 'Why We Lost' exploring the state of Calypso and criticizing those who condemn Calypsonians who do not write their own songs. Winner of the 2007 Stars of Tomorrow Competiton, Roderick Gordon, then performed 'Street Justice' a social commentary penned by Larry Harewood. He obliged to a request to perform his popular Soca song 'Turn Around' which won him second place in the International Groovy Soca Monarch Competition, much to the delight of the audience.

After his performance, guest artiste Winston 'Explainer' Henry graced the stage, and gave an energetic rendition of his 2007 selection popularly known as 'No Put-to-Pow in the Party'. Backed up by a group of the awardees, Explainer had the audience dancing and singing along. The excitement increased as he launched into his perennial favourite 'Lorraine'... a climaxing end to the evenings proceedings.
