Event Date: July 20, 2007

For the many lovers of Kaiso music, the Jean Pierre Complex was the place to be on Friday 20th July, 2007, for the first ever Kaiso for Summer concert, which is a spin-off of the Soca for Summer concert, both of which were produced by Soca giant, Neil 'D' Boss' George formerly known as Neil 'Iwer' George. Neil George, originally from Point Fortin had celebrated twenty years in the Kaiso and Soca business and made that night's affair a grand occasion to behold. This night was particularly thrilling as an excited audience awaited with bated breath the performances of legendary Kaiso artistes who appeared on stage about an hour and a half before the midnight hour.

Dressed in dapper suits and bright colours, artistes seemed to light up the venue and exuded even more energy to the reserved, mature audience. Calypsonians were backed by the vibrant sounds of the Kelly Green and Harmony Band and were humored by masters of ceremonies Tommy Joseph, Dennis 'Spangalang' Hall, Eddie Yearwood and Michael 'Mickey K' Kerr.

Some of the mesmerizing performances were by Dwayne O' Connor who sang "Sartorial Elegance" in tribute to Calypso stalwart, Mighty Duke; Anthony 'All Rounder' Hendrickson backed by his vivacious daughters Shirlane Hendrickson and Diane 'Lady Wonder' Hendrickson; Terri Lyons with her powerful rendition of "Ah Feel It"; Hollis 'Chalkdust' Liverpool and Sandra 'Singing Sandra' Des Vignes Millington.

The audience was also livened with performances by Winston 'De Original De Fosto Himself' Scarborough who was backed by Yohan Popwell on the pan; Quincy Taylor who sang Eric 'Pink Panther Taylor's "Misprint" and stunned the audience with his voice which was just like his father's, receiving an encore for his amazing presentation; Timothy 'Baron' Watkins Jr. who got the ladies wild off of his sweet voice; the legendary Sylvester 'Poser' Lockhart; Leroy 'Black Stalin' Calliste who got the audience in a dancing mood; Johnson 'Johnny King' King who's melodic voice has never faded despite the many years in the industry and the effervescent Yafei 'Rootsman' Osei.

Other Calypsonians that performed that night were Denise Plummer, Irvin 'Blackie' Blackman, Weston 'Cro Cro' Rawlins and Michael 'Protector' Legerton.

One of the most anticipated moments of the night came sometime after midnight with the arrival of Neil 'D' Boss' George on stage. 'D' Boss' busted onto the scene with a medley of his Soca tunes including "Fete after Fete", "On a Bam Bam", "Bottom in the Road", "We Reach", "Party Hot Hot Hot", "Boom Boom Time" and "Na Do Dat" which was one of his first hits. On stage with him creating a Carnival-like atmosphere was the talented North West Laventille Cultural Movement Dance Troupe who got the audience pumped.

During his performance, D'Boss left the stage to meet his mother and publicly display his love and appreciation for the support that she has shown him over the years. He also introduced the audience to other members of his family who stood by him proudly as photographers rushed to capture the family portrait.

As an additional treat, George's son, Marlon George performed the popular "Fête After Fête" with his father. The audience went wild for this Carnival 2007 favourite.

After the long hours of exciting entertainment, Soca icon Austin 'Super Blue' Lyons ended the night's performance with classic tunes such as "Get Something and Wave" and "Soca Baptist". His performance turned the audience into a frenzy with patrons rushing to the front of the stage to greet the icon. Some members of the crowd reached out to touch the Soca star and one person in particular made it his obligation to shine Lyons' shoes, symbolizing that 'Super Blue' was still the revered king of Soca. During his performance, he asked Neil D' Boss' George and his daughter, Terri Lyons to join him on stage for a very emotional performance. So moving was the performance that the audience sang with all their power many of Super Blue's hits verbatim and some even "catching the power".

The end of the Kaiso for Summer concert ended very beautifully with traces of the high-energy performances still evident in the air. After the Jean Pierre Complex was emptied except for the few Calypsonians that remained for some chatter, the place was extremely quiet except for the chants of a patron who had been enchanted by the music of the last performer. This brought to an end a night filled with wonderful performances and a spirit that would be remembered eternally.

Hats off to 'D'Boss' for an exciting and memorable night of Kaiso.
