A RETIRED prisons officer is the 2008 Young King Calypso Monarch
The Mighty Diamond (Patrick Purcell Lewis) beat back 17 other contestants at the St James Amphitheatre on Monday night to win the title and a $100,000 cash prize.
The new Young King, who lives at Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, and is attached to the Icons Calypso Tent this season, scored his surprise victory after rendering “Crime Issues,†a social commentary in which he declared: “The only time they know to stop crime is when they threaten the State.â€
