Soca in the Square started off hot with its opening act, Machel Montano HD. Thousands of people left their places of employment during their lunchtime break to enjoy the mini concert courtesy the main sponsor, Bmobile. This week-long activity began on Monday 5th February, 2007, and already people displayed excitement for this time-off during the day from their daily routines.

Although Montano’s act was the main attraction, the audience at the Square were also treated to the musical talents of the melodic Patrice Roberts and Zan. They were both able to keep the crowd in a state of bliss, showing to them, not their singing abilities, but their skill in keeping the crowd interested in their performances.

However, the main performer during the midday hour was none other than the energetic, Machel Montano. He sang a medley of hits with the assistance of Farmer Nappy and the HD band and, as usual, maintained the high-energy pace throughout his performance.

Throughout Montano’s presentation there were giveaways of jerseys and bandanas by the main sponsor, bmobile and this would continue throughout the mini-concert series.

After witnessing the highly energetic and entertaining performances on the first day of the concert series, it would be a difficult task to determine whether the performers on the following days could beat this standard.
